For the first time in school history, Portage Northern has claimed consecutive district football championships. The Huskies defeated Forest Hills Central 31-6 at home Friday evening, earning a regional rematch against Muskegon Mona Shores.
PN’s defense kept a shutout intact until the lone Ranger touchdown midway through the fourth quarter. The game stayed scoreless until Cam Adams hit a 37-yard field goal late in the second quarter. Before halftime, the Huskies scored the first touchdown with a 27-yard fourth down pass from Nick Henegar to Kareem Williams.
The Huskies took a three-possession led to open the third quarter as Cory Cunnimgham went 92 yards on the opening kickoff return. Henegar connected on a touchdown pass to Zach Farley, followed soon after by an Anthony Tyus III touchdown run for a 31-0 lead by the end of the third quarter.
Now 10-1, Portage Northern has a rematch in the regional final next weekend with Muskegon Mona Shores (9-2). Unlike the 2018 duel however, the Huskies will play host.
