Portage Northern picked up an emphatic 11-0 baseball win against Gull Lake for their senior night on Thursday. Only one game was completed of a scheduled doubleheader between the two top-ten ranked teams, as thunderstorms ended the second contest in the second inning.
The Husky bats were on fire, picking up 14 total hits with five for extra bases. Two home runs flew over the left field wall, a solo shot by Gannon Andrews in the second inning and a two-run bomb by Nolan McCarthy in the third.
Andrews scored three runs, also getting a single and walk with two RBI. McCarthy also doubled. Parker Brey scored twice with a double and single. Jack Beffel tallied two RBI on a single and double and Tyler Helgeson notched a RBI triple and run.
Cam French was excellent on the mound, allowing only three hits and one walk over a five-inning complete game shutout. It was the first time Gull Lake has been held scoreless all season.

JT Mansager scored the lone run of the first game. Thunder rumbled around 6:30 p.m. during the bottom of the second inning with a full storm following about a half hour later. As it is a non-division game and late in the season, it is unlikely to be continued. You can listen back to what was played in game two here.
With the win, Portage Northern improves to 24-6 on the season. They take the weekend off, then prepare for five days of action next week starting with their home finale Monday against Hackett Catholic.
Gull Lake drops to 18-5 with the defeat. They travel to Grand Rapids Catholic Central Saturday, then host Kalamazoo Central in a SMAC East doubleheader Tuesday.
