Portage Central and Gull Lake both represented the SMAC Tuesday in regional semifinal volleyball matches at Lakeview High School in Battle Creek. In the first match, the Mustangs swept Jackson Northwest. Match two saw the Blue Devils fall in a five set classic against DeWitt.
PC was largely dominant against the Mounties, winning 25-13, 25-13, 25-23. Portage Central is now 20-9 according to Maxpreps and advances to the regional championship for the first time since 2016, which saw a five-set win over DeWitt to claim the crown. Portage Central would fall in five in the 2016 quarterfinal to Rockford, the eventual runner-up.
The second match was about as tight as it could be, finishing in favor of the Panthers 23-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 16-14. Gull Lake finishes at 14-15 according to Maxpreps and graduates seniors Maddie Bellinger, Jamie Arvidson, Mia Green, Sonia Markucki, Sarah Willard, Savanna Disbrow, and Emerson Plugee.
The regional championship between Portage Central and DeWitt will be hosted by Lakeview Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
