Portage Central defeated crosstown foe Portage Northern 4-0 Friday at PC to secure the District #3 girls soccer championship. It was the third Mustang victory this year over the Huskies and their most emphatic, giving PC its third district crown over the last four seasons.
The Mustangs took control immediately, using early corner kicks to keep the ball near the Huskies net. Olivia Brodie put PC ahead early in the 3rd minute and by the sixth minute, Lilly Mih gave the Mustangs a 2-0 lead.
Carly Boughton’s 26th minute strike allowed Portage Central to carry a 3-0 lead into halftime. Mih added her second goal in the 60th minute.
With the victory, Portage Central improves to 15-2-1 and advances to the regional semifinal at 5 p.m. on Tuesday from Grandville against Forest Hills Central. Portage Northern finishes with a 9-8-4 record.
