Portage Central picked up their first boys basketball win of the 2018-19 campaign Tuesday with a firm 64-45 home victory against Edwardsburg.
There were two brief lead changes in the first quarter, but it didn’t take long for the Mustangs to get the lead for good. The score went from 14-7 after the first to 39-19 at halftime, capping off the second quarter on a deep three-pointer by Jason Mih.
Nine Mustangs found the scoresheet, led by Mih’s 13 and 10 from both Hunter Young and Luke Leto. Colby Sidenbender’s 10 paced the Eddies.
It was Edwardsburg’s debut, putting them at 0-1 to open the season. Wolverine Conference play awaits Friday with their home opener against Allegan.
Portage Central moves to 1-2 overall and travels to Mattawan Friday for a big SMAC West showdown.
