Portage Central downed Kalamazoo Central 46-26 Friday in the District 13 girls basketball championship game at Lakeshore. It’s back-to-back district crowns for the Mustangs, who also knocked out the Maroon Giants in last season’s title bout. PC’s defense had another dominant defensive showing, holding KC to a 27-8 score at halftime.
Kalamazoo Central finishes at 12-11 on the season. The young Maroon Giant squad will only graduate one senior in Genesis Griffin, meaning they’ll be right back in the SMAC mix next season.
The Mustangs improve to 20-3 and face East Lansing in Tuesday’s 5:30 p.m. regional semifinal at Holt. The Trojans (22-1) downed DeWitt 44-24 in their district final. The other side of the regional bracket has the host Holt and SMAC foe Battle Creek Central. Player statistics were unavailable from Friday’s game.
