Top-ranked Mendon (Class C) breezed through its home St. Joseph Valley League volleyball match Wednesday against Centreville, 25-7, 25-16, 25-6.
Jackie Friel had five aces for the Hornets, Loryn Baughman registered 29 assists, Brooke Howard finished with 11 kills and 11 digs, Alexis Russell posted 11 kills and six digs, Jordan VanOss had nine kills, one block and six digs and Megan Leighton posted five kills.
“I think our serving was dominant in the game tonight,” Mendon coach Kathy Trenary said. “They gave us a lot of free balls off the net and we were able to get to our offense.”
Bailee May served up two aces, fired seven kills and registered three digs to pace the Bulldogs, which couldn’t find much offense elsewhere.
“We struggled in serve receive tonight against a great volleyball program,” Centreville coach Melissa Gales said. “We talked about how important it is to play as a competitor every time we step on the court. Again, middle hitter Bailee May attacked well and made her presence known at the net.”
Centreville is back in action at Thursday against Quincy, which will be lone senior Charity Yeager’s final home appearance. Mendon hosts Galesburg-Augusta.
