Mendon remains undefeated in St. Joseph Valley League play after sweeping White Pigeon Wednesday 25-15, 25-11, 25-11. The Chiefs dropped to 1-3 in the conference.
Brooke Howard had 15 kills, 13 digs and four aces, Alexis Russell finished with 11 kills, 14 digs, three blocks and four aces, Loryn Baughman passed out 27 assists and Jordan Van Oss registered 17 digs for the Hornets.
White Pigeon’s Bethany Hagner had nine kills and seven digs, Rachel Brock chipped in nine digs and Skyler DeMeyer ended the night with 15 assists and seven digs. Danielle Chantrenne posted four kills and Sydney Harmon posted eight digs.
“I’m a little disappointed that we didn’t keep the scores closer,” Chiefs coach Tony Hooley said. “We had some well-played stretches that were fun to watch, but [we] couldn’t sustain that level of play to the end. Defensively I thought we had some great moments on the floor, but we were dominated at the net.
“Dani Chantrenne had one of the best outings of her career so far. It doesn’t show in the newspaper stat lines, but she played very well.”
