Every year Mendon’s goal is to play 14 football games and win 14. The chase for a Division 8 state championship ended in the 12th game this past weekend with a 28-12 loss to Muskegon Catholic Central in the regional finals. After finishing 11-1, JoeInsider.com caught up with several Hornets seniors to get their thoughts on the year. Below are also cumulative statistics (click to enlarge).
Josh Goodman (offensive/defensive tackle)
“It’s certainly not the way we wanted the season to end. But this team was great. I wouldn’t have traded this season or team for any other.”
Derek Zagon (offensive guard/linebacker)
“We worked hard. I love my team; we are like family. I wouldn’t have asked to play with anyone else. We gave it our all. It was disappointing not coming out with a win. I’m going to miss it.”
Marcus Craft (wide receiver/defensive back)
“I think our team this season was pretty special. We were able to get along with each other really well and had tons of fun together. We were a pretty loose team but we were still able to stay focused and go out and win football games and that’s what made it fun. It’s definitely a team I’m going to miss playing with.”
Tommy Gifford (offensive tackle/defensive end)
“Overall I think it was a great season. We all gave it all we had and the brotherhood got stronger and stronger as the weeks went on. With the injured players we had I think we stepped up and overcame all of it. This season I sure will never forget.”
