The Mendon varsity boys track team defeated Cassopolis 83-41 Wednesday night, while the Rangers’ girls team beat Mendon 82-49 in a Southwest 10 Conference dual meet.
Winning events for the Hornets in the boys competition were Sam Cleveland in the 100 meters (11.20 seconds), Lincoln Crotser in the 800 (2:40.34), Charlie Newburry in the 1600 (5:25.69) and the 3200 (11:43.40), Arjun Vorster in the 110 hurdles (17.57) and Connor Henckel in the 300 hurdles (44.86).
The quartet of Crotser, Henckel, Jacob Dudley and Newburry crossed the line first in the 4×800 relay in a time of 10:27.23. In the field events, Zach Duchene won the shot put (35 feet, 9 inches), Vorster was first in the discus (125-8), Hunter Lovell turned in the top high jump at 5-10, Chris Rios cleared 9 feet in the high jump for a victory, and Cleveland claimed first in the long jump with a leap of 20-10.
Mackenzie Blair gave the Lady Hornets a win in the 100 (15.10), the Mendon 4×800 relay team of Taylor Heitkamp, Aubrey McKenzi, Mackenzie Urick and Mari Clark earned first-place points with a time of 13:35.14, and Mackenzi Oswalt won the high jump at 4-3.
