Colon’s wrestling team finished 1-4 at Saturday’s Homer Invitational after forfeiting seven weight classes. Still, the Magi earned a 36-12 victory over Olivet and produced some impressive individual performances.
Nick Martin ended the day with a 5-0 record at 189 pounds with four pins and a void. Daniel Alva went 4-1 at 125 (two pins and two major decisions), and Damean Shook also was 4-1 at 152.
Michigan Center beat Colon 68-9, Harper Creek won 46-22, Lakeview won 48-27 and Reading was victorious with a 60-22 decision.
Darrin Abraham also posted a winning record with a 3-2 mark at 130.
“Our wrestling was much improved compared to how we performed last week, but giving up voids in seven weight classes (103, 112, 119, 135, 140, 145, and 171) started us off in a 42-point hole right off the bat most the day,” Colon coach Darrin VandenBerg said.
