Marshall, ranked No. 8 in Class B, cruised to a 61-29 victory over visiting Sturgis Tuesday in a Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference East Division girls basketball game.
The Redhawks (16-2, 12-1), which got out to a 27-12 halftime lead, shot 51 percent for the game and 62.5 percent (5-for-8) from 3-point land. Marshall also outscored the Trojans 16-11 at the free throw line.
Rachel Anderson scored nine points and five blocks for Sturgis (5-13, 3-10), and Goretti Alfaro-Cardiel and Nikki Nelson both finished with eight points. Nelson grabbed a team-high nine rebounds in the effort. Maddy Mercer chipped in three points and Morgan Pueschel added one.
Anderson, Marissa Parker and Nelson all snagged two steals.
Chelsea Tobias racked up 22 points for Marshall.
“Marshall is a good team,” Sturgis coach Amie Burger said. “They have a lot of girls that can score for them and they move the ball well on offense. We handled their press better this time. Goretti Alfaro-Cardiel did a good job helping us do that tonight. She also gave us some points, which we were hoping she would start doing for us.”
