Colon (2-6) closes out the 2013 football campaign with the toughest opponent on its schedule tonight with a trip to Climax-Scotts (7-1). The Panthers are ranked No. 6 in Division 8.
Injury Report
“We are very depleted going into Week 9, but we have some talented and dedicated JV kids coming up to play on the varsity to fill some key positions,” Magi coach Darrin VandenBerg said. “Brett Prell will start at WR, Logan Vaughn at cornerback, Damean Shook at defensive end, and Brandon Tomlinson at fullback. Chase Tomlinson and Taya Bower will come off the bench to play safety/WR and OT/DT, respectively.”
Scouting Climax-Scotts
“Climax-Scotts has a great football program. They run the full-house T and run it well. They don’t run a lot of different stuff but what they do run they run very well. We will need to stay disciplined on defense to give us a shot at staying in the game. Defensively, they are hard hitting and close quickly on the ball. We must maintain our blocks and run the ball hard. We will have to keep them honest with some short passing routes and mix a deep shot here and there.”
Practice Report
“We are focusing on our defensive responsibilities and looking for some grit and discipline on that side of the ball,” VandenBerg said. “Offensively, we are giving recently transitioned QB Tyler Schipper lots of reps at his new position.”
