The Sturgis football team improved to 3-1 overall this year and 2-0 in Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference East Division play. The 28-25 victory required a key interception and a more effective passing game. The Trojans delivered in critical moments on both sides of the ball to finish off the home win.

On his huge interception early in the third quarter following a Sturgis fumble:
It was a great win last night and it was a team win. The only reason I got the pick was because our defensive linemen (Luke Summey in particular) pressured the quarterback. Our coach said [Marshall is] better than their record shows, but we hung in there and played well and got the win.
On his first year kicking PATs and field goals:
We had kicking tryouts a couple weeks ago and I decided, ‘Why not?’ I’ve been kicking ever since. I’m definitely eager to try some field goals, but I’m completely fine with PATs because that means the offense is scoring touchdowns.”
Any previous kicking experience?
“I used to play travel soccer when I was 10. Besides getting the steps and timing down, I just kick it like a soccer ball.”

On finally feeling healthy after missing so much time due to a back injury:
“It was the first day back in two weeks. I’ve been out for a while, and I was out most of the season last year. Might as well leave it all out on the field. I fractured a vertebrae last year, so it feels good to be back.”
On his six catches for 95 yards and two sacks:
“I feel pretty good and it feels really good to make plays.”
