Only leading by a couple possessions at halftime, the Colon varsity girls basketball team pulled away in the third on its way to a 49-26 victory over Burr Oak Monday in a Class D district semifinal game at Climax-Scotts. The Magi earned a spot in Friday’s championship against Martin.
Katelyne Leitch led Colon with a 15-point triple-double performance of 15 points, 14 rebounds, 10 steals and two assists, and Keagon Bower had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
“Our girls came out a little sluggish; I felt like we couldn’t buy a bucket,” Colon coach Robbie Hattan said. “We came out on fire in the second half. Good win for the Magi tonight.”
Sydney Owens registered 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals to pace Burr Oak.
“We struggled from the line tonight (8-25) and committed 28 turnovers,” Burr Oak coach Dave Brackett said. “It’s tough to win games that way but we were in it until the end of the third. We played solid defense just couldn’t get an offensive rhythm.”
