MENDON – Coach Leasa Griffith wanted her Mendon girls basketball team to talk more on defense.
It looks like they were all hearing each other just fine against Cassopolis Tuesday night.
Holding the Rangers to four or fewer points in three of the four quarters, Mendon, an honorable mention in the latest Associated Press Class C poll, rolled to a 52-19 victory to run its record up to 14-1 this season.
The Hornets held quarter leads of 9-4, 23-13 and 34-16.
‘’Defensively, we stepped it up in the second half all the way around,’’ Griffith said. ‘’We have also talked about constant communication on the defensive end of the floor.
‘’This was a big win for us.’’
Brooke Howard led the way for the winners with 17 points, six rebounds, two steals and two assists and Alexis Russell finished with 11 points. Grace Leighton and Jenna Griffith had 10 points apiece. Rachel Frisbie and Cierra Furlong both finished with two.
Russell cleaned the glass, grabbing 14 re bounds and she also blocked two shots. Griffith and Grace Leighton each made two steals.
For Cassopolis, Logan Lawson and Kayln Forrest each had six points.
