The Kalamazoo College women’s soccer team defeated Calvin 2-0 in their home debut, giving the Hornets their first MIAA win of 2019.
Possession stayed lopsided for most of the match with K winning total shots 16-4 and earning 13 corner kicks while keeping the Knights to zero. A corner in the 14th minute helped set up the initial goal, eventually knocked in by Loy Norrix alum Catie Stamper and assisted by Emme DeConinck.
In the 56th minute, Kalamazoo’s second goal came unassisted via senior Libby Munoz. Goalkeeper Hannah Wolfe made three saves in the victory, posting her third shutout of the season.
Calvin falls to 2-7-1 overall and 0-1 in MIAA play. The Knights head to Adrian Wednesday, then host Hope Saturday.
Kalamazoo moves to 2-5-3 overall and 1-0-1 in league play Up next is a trip to Trine Wednesday, followed by a home match at 2:30 p.m. Saturday against Adrian. Saturday will see a doubleheader as the Hornet men play Hope after around 5 p.m.
