Kalamazoo Valley earned an 81-68 home victory Saturday afternoon against Lake Michigan College, giving the Cougars the regular season sweep. It was KVCC’s highest-scoring game this season and they got career-high games from two players.
Plainwell’s Evan Finch scored 24 points and Gull Lake’s Darrian Burkett added 21. Both gentlemen also had double-doubles with 10 rebounds apiece and they combined for nine assists.
LMC led initially, but the Cougars would have the advantage for most of the first half, holding a 40-31 score at the intermission. The Red Hawks rallied from the nine-point hole for a brief lead and a few ties, but KVCC would pull back out to a double-digit margin with a 16-8 run in the latter stages of the second half.
Lake Michigan drops to 4-19 with the loss and 2-10 within the MCCAA Western Conference. They return to action at home Wednesday against Mid Michigan.
Kalamazoo Valley improves to 6-17 and 4-7 in the West with the victory. They host Grand Rapids for a Monday makeup, followed by a Wednesday trek to Ancilla.
