Kalamazoo Christian baseball grabbed two road wins against Hackett Catholic Prep Friday with 8-4 and 6-2 final scores. The victories keep the Comets unbeaten within SAC Valley play and puts them in strong shape to take the division, now holding sweeps of the second and third place teams.
The Comets assumed control with seven runs between innings two and three, tallying nine of their 12 hits in those innings. After four hits in the first four innings, the Irish got four runs on seven hits in the final three innings, but couldn’t erase the deficit.
JJ Gasaway pitched a complete game for K-Christian and had a strong game at the plate with three RBI on a double and single. Leadoff hitter Josh Egberts tallied four RBI on two singles and a double. Wyatt Steensma scored three runs as a courtesy and pinch runner.
For Hackett, Stephen Kwapis had two RBI with a solo home run and sacrifice fly. Andrew Widger and Sam Shea each had two hits. Shea pitched the first five innings, followed by two clean innings of relief from John Brown.

The Comets had four multi-hit innings, allowing them to slowly build up a solid lead. Elliot Lemmer tossed a strong complete game with four hits and three walks scattered. Kwapis started for the Irish and pitched five and 2/3 innings, followed by Connor Cavanaugh for the remainder of the game.
Offensively for K-Christian, Egberts had three singles for a run and RBI. David VanderKamp scored twice and Jared Scheffers picked up two RBI. Alec Corwin and Michael Moralez both had two hits. Steven Widger had two hits for the Irish with runs scored by Cavanaugh and Garrett Warner.

With the victories, Kalamazoo Christian moves to 15-3-1 overall and 8-0 in SAC Valley play. Hackett Catholic falls to 8-11 and 6-4 within Valley play, third behind Schoolcraft (6-2).
Both the Comets and Irish return to action Saturday morning in the Kalamazoo City Tournament at 10 a.m. Hackett plays at Kalamazoo Central and K-Christian hosts Loy Norrix, with the winners and losers meeting later in the afternoon.
