Kalamazoo Central won Tuesday 8-4 at Parchment in the first baseball action for both teams following spring break. The Maroon Giants get the season sweep over the Panthers, as they also grabbed an 11-5 home win back on March 26.
Cole Hemingway was a standout on the mound for K-Central, entering in relief to begin the third inning with a 4-4 score. Hemingway would pitch five shutout innings with five strikeouts and only two baserunners allowed. Parchment’s five pitchers allowed 10 hits and five walks.
Nick Rakowski led the Maroon Giant offense with three RBI on three hits and two runs scored by his courtesy runner Jackson Terranella-Hoffman. Cam Esman notably had a two RBI single and a run for the Panthers.
Parchment moves to 2-2 and returns to action Friday for a single game at Hackett Catholic, followed by tournament play Saturday at Marshall.
Kalamazoo Central sits at 4-0 and has a big home doubleheader Thursday with conference and district rival Mattawan. The Maroon Giants head to Jackson Saturday.
