Another season means another SMAC East boys basketball crown for Kalamazoo Central, who locked up the division title with Saturday’s 73-41 home win against Loy Norrix.
It’s the fifth consecutive SMAC East title for the Maroon Giants, who are now 46-0 in divisional games since the 2014-15 realignment. It’s their sixth straight division title counting their 2013-14 SMAC West crown.
Despite the lopsided final, the Knights opened the game with the momentum. Loy Norrix began the evening on an 8-2 run, capped off with an emphatic one-handed dunk from Yohan Ademodi. After a timeout at the 5:35 mark, the Maroon Giants would finish the first quarter on a blistering 19-2 run.
A fairly even second quarter put the score at 21-10 into halftime. The Knights made it back within eight early in the third quarter, but would find themselves behind by 20 by the end of the frame as the KC offense continued to roll.
Three Maroon Giants scored in double-figures, getting 14 from Jadakiss Lewis, 11 via Trevon Gunter, and 10 by Justin Davis. Kenndrel Palmore had 13 in defeat for LN.
Loy Norrix falls to 6-10 with the loss and 2-4 within the SMAC East. They host Portage Northern in a Monday makeup, which can be heard live via JoeInsider.com.
Kalamazoo Central moves to 11-3 on the win and 6-0 atop the division. They’ll head east Tuesday versus Battle Creek Central.
