The Constantine boys basketball team found itself in an eight-point hole after the first quarter and never recovered in a 62-38 home loss Friday to Kalamazoo Christian.
Brennan Heidema poured in 21 points for K-Christian, followed by Clayton Meldrum (14) and Ryan Gove (nine). The Comets moved to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the Kalamazoo Valley Association.
Cody Ley popped for 17 points to lead Constantine, which is now 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the KVA. Anthony Bontrager posted seven points, Joey Steiner had four, Perry White and Jon Doering each scored three and Austin Kinser added two.
“We played as well offensively as we had all year in the first quarter being patient and getting great shots — just missed a lot of shots we normally make,” Falcons coach Chuck Frisbie said. “After that kids got out of their roles and tried to do too much. K-Christian’s a very disciplined team and took advantage of us when we tried to do too much.
“Cody Ley played a great game inside for tonight; he’s doing a much better job of asking for the ball in a position to score.”
Ley had a team-high nine rebounds (seven defensive) and two steals, with Luhk Mullendore adding seven boards.
