The Sturgis girls varsity golf team hoped to ride a wave of momentum after a solid showing at last week’s Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference Jamboree but couldn’t find its rhythm Wednesday at Marshall Country Club. The Trojans finished fifth with a total score of 218, trailing Marshall (178) Lakeview (186); Coldwater (202) and Harper Creek (217).
There were some bright spots for Sturgis, which included Jessica Griffieon’s round of 47, a career best in jamboree play and good for a share of seventh place. Allison Herman’s 58 was also her lowest score in a SMAC jamboree outing.
“After beating Harper Creek, Marshall and Coldwater last Wednesday we were looking forward to this Jamboree to try to move up the SMAC East, but didn’t play particularly well as a team top to bottom,” Sturgis coach Ken Schau said. “We continue to accomplish personal and team goals and we are working hard to keep getting better.”
