Loy Norrix used a 22-3 fourth quarter score to pull away Monday evening for a 59-39 home victory against Portage Northern. Prior to the late explosion, the game had six lead changes and six ties with neither team leading by more than two possessions.
The Knights had a 15-10 lead to close the first quarter, but the Huskies answered with a 12-2 rally of their own. Portage Northern took a 26-24 lead into halftime and after three lead changes, Loy Norrix had a one-point advantage at 37-36 to close the third.
From there, the Knights had one of their best quarters all season, only surrendering one three-point basket to the Huskies within the final two minutes. Just beyond the midway point of the fourth, Loy Norrix had put together a 14-0 run.
Deandre Worthy had a huge second half, getting 15 of his game-high 17 points, along with a handful of rebounds and blocks. Kenndrel Palmore was next with 13 points. Devin Marshall and Parker Brey led the Huskies with eight apiece.
Portage Northern falls to 7-9 overall and returns to action at home Wednesday against St. Joseph. The Huskies then meet Portage Central Friday, which can heard live via JoeInsider.com.
Loy Norrix moves to 7-10 with the win, going 4-2 in their last six games. The Knights host divisional foe Lakeview Friday evening.
