Mendon welcomed Buchanan Friday night with a 17-5 run through the first eight minutes and the Hornets put the game out of reach in the third frame for a 67-43 victory.
Coach Leasa Griffith’s outfit jumped on the Bucks coming out of the locker room 22-6 for its fourth consecutive win to start the year. Brooke Howard was 7-for-8 at the free-throw line and added a pair of 3-pointers for a game-high 31 points and six rebounds. Alexis Russell tallied 17 points and five boards, and Jenna Griffith added eight points (two triples), six assists and four steals.
“This was a good win for us against a very good Buchanan team,” Leasa Griffith said. “We definitely found areas where we need to work, and the girls are ready to get at it.”
Jackie Friel chipped in four rebounds to go with her three points and Grace Leighton contributed four points, three boards, four assists and four steals,
Madison Prillmitz led Buchanan (2-2) with 13 points and Brooke Wesner finished with 12.
