Hines wins Wolverine golf title, Three Rivers finishes third in league

October 3, 2013 By Wes Morgan

Three Rivers’s Holly Hines carved out a medalist round of 3-over-par 76 Thursday at Lake Doster Golf Club in the Wolverine Conference Championship to help the Wildcats take third place in the final league standings. It was her 10th victory of the season.

Comstock won with a total of 397, Three Rivers was second at 404 and Plainwell finished third with 407. Plainwell and Comstock tied for first overall this season.

The Wildcats’ Brittany Klinger shot 103 for ninth place, Callie McLeod carded 110 and Anna Ochsenrider shot 115.

Holly Hines (left) won Thursday’s championship, her tenth tournament title of the year.

“I played very within myself today and didn’t push for birdies,” Hines said. “They just came. And I am so proud of my team, especially because they are so young. They have pushed themselves so hard this year and I am very proud of them. Now we want to go get it at regionals.”

Hines birdied Nos. 3, 6, 13 and dropped a 20-foot putt for birdie on No. 16.

“I could not be more proud of the girls,” Three Rivers coach Phil Webb said. “Holly anchored us today … she played lights out. She won today by 18 strokes. That’s impressive. Brittany picked up on the back nine. Callie McLeod played like we knew Callie could play. She has had more downs than ups this year, but today was her best day of the year. We were so happy for her. Anna Ochsenrider was steady today.  She has been steadily improving through out the year and was a solid 4th score for us today.

“It’s nice to be playing some of our best golf when it counts. Today’s tournament gives us some motivation for next week at regionals, which are back at Lake Doster.  If we play to our potential, you can’t rule out a trip to the state finals.”
Hines, who averaged 39.6 per nine holes in league play, was the obvious choice for the league’s outstanding golfer. Klinger was also named all-conference.
