Hartford staked their claim as the undisputed top team in the Southwest 10 Monday, moving to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in league play with their 7-0 home victory over Cassopolis.
The Indians unofficially outshot the Rangers 28-7 overall and 18-5 for shots on goal. Hartford opened scoring courtesy of Luis Resendez in the 25th minute, assisted by Miggy Cardoso. About three minutes later, Cardoso had a goal of his own for a 2-0 lead.
In the 34th and 35th minutes, Roy Rodriguez added goals to put Hartford ahead 4-0 into the break. Rodriguez completed the hat-trick in the 45th minute, then helped on a 49th minute goal that Fernando Alvarez completed following a save on Rodriguez’s initial shot. In the 71st minute, Rodriguez tallied his fourth goal for his team’s seventh and final score.
The shutout was Hartford’s sixth clean sheet of the year with Rudy Martinez starting and Aaron Robles taking over midway through the second. Unofficially, Cassopolis keeper Jason Sopaseuth racked up 11 saves.
The Indians move to 8-0 overall and 4-0 after their first pass through the Southwest 10’s soccer squads. They head to Marcellus Wednesday, then travel to Hackett Catholic Thursday for a rematch of last year’s regional final showdown.
Cassopolis drops to 5-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play. On Wednesday they’ll host Bloomingdale, whom they tied 2-2 back in August. The Rangers will host Hartford in a rematch on Wednesday, September 26.
