Hackett Catholic Prep broke open a close game at Constantine Tuesday night with an explosive second quarter en route to a 71-42 boys basketball victory.
After assuming a 14-8 lead through the first eight minutes of the contest, Hackett nearly tripled that total during the second quarter. Aidan Gillig scored 11 of his team’s 27 points, and knocked down three shots from behind the 3-point line, staking the Irish to a 41-14 lead by halftime.
For good measure, the Irish dropped 24 points on the Falcons during the third quarter to extend their lead to 65-27 heading into the final stanza.
Gillig led all scorers with 13 points, while teammates Heath Baldwin and Brennan Creek finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Jacob Niesen chipped in with seven points for Hackett, Cooper Smith and Andrew Widger each added six points and Casey Gallagher and Max Jones both tallied four.
Trey Salisbury and Seth Wright each scored 10 points for Constantine. Hunter Bacheller finished with six points for the Falcons, Nolan Malcom, Dawson Kiess and Logyn Miller each scored four points and Solomon Walker and Blake Struble rounded out the Constantine scoring with two points, apiece.
