A 21-point deficit after the first eight minutes sucked the life out of the Sturgis girls basketball team, which ended up losing 58-15 Friday at Gull Lake.
The Blue Devils improved to 11-1 overall and 6-1 in Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference play after Mackenzie Latt produced 19 points and Kelsey Bauer tacked on 10.
Sturgis (3-9, 2-6) struggled to score when it was able to get quality possessions at all.
“We didn’t take care of the ball on the press,” Trojans coach Amie Burger said. “They brought a lot of pressure from the start. Gull Lake is a good team and they played well tonight.”
Point guard Morgan Pueschel returned to the starting lineup after a long injury hiatus and scored four points. Nicolette Nelson also registered four point, Marissa Parker and Rachel Anderson finished with three apiece and Gretchen Inman scored a point.
Nelson led the team with five rebounds, followed by Anderson (two) and Pueschel (one).
