A Sturgis girls basketball team ravaged by injuries and still figuring things out with new personnel and a new head coach continued a brutal stretch of games to start the season Friday in a 62-26 home loss to Gull Lake.
The Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference East Division tilt was never in doubt as the Blue Devils (4-0) built a 17-2 lead after the first quarter. Mackenzie Latt scored a game-high 17 points, followed by Sierra Showerman (11) and Kelsey Bauer (nine).
The Trojans fell to 0-3 after shooting 10-for-31 from the field and committing 31 turnovers. Gretchen Inman led Sturgis with 10 points, connecting on 4 of 7 shot attempts, and five rebounds and a steal. Morgan Pueschel added three points, one rebound and three assists.
Jessica Cline came off the bench and contributed five points, five rebounds and an assist, and Rachel Anderson grabbed six rebounds.
