Gull Lake picked up an emphatic 6-0 home victory Thursday night over Loy Norrix, putting the Blue Devils at 5-0 in SMAC play halfway through their league schedule.
The Blue Devils controlled the possession and opportunities significantly throughout the entire match. They had a 4-0 lead by halftime with two goals from Rini Sylejmani, one from his younger brother Roni, and another by freshman Austin Boucher. Both Sylejmani brothers added another goal to their tally in the second half.
It’s the fourth shutout of the season for Gull Lake with three saves unofficially by Kaden McCloughan. Loy Norrix’s Carlos Santos turned away nine shots in the defeat.
Gull Lake now moves to 8-2-1 overall and 5-0 in the SMAC, even with Portage Central for the top spot. Loy Norrix drops to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the SMAC, the losses coming to the current top four in the standings.
The Blue Devils travel to Kalamazoo Central Saturday afternoon, then host Lakeview Tuesday. The Knights host K-Central Monday and Battle Creek Central Thursday.
