Golf Roundup: May 9

May 10, 2022 By Jordan Slocum

Area boys golf teams hit the links on Monday with perhaps the nicest weather to date of the spring 2022 season.   The SCAA held a jamboree event at Riverside in Battle Creek with Burr Oak’s Flavio Hernandez cracking the top 10 with a score of 47, tying him for sixth on the leaderboard.

“Overall the match went very well and was a much easier course than last week,” said Bobcats coach Tyler Hunt.  “Pace of play was up and scores were a little better overall.”

Burr Oak placed seventh with a team score of 254.  Lenawee Christian won the event at 185.  For the Bobcats, Ethan Lindsey scored 66, Branson Hernandez 68, and Austin Cole 73.  Cole’s mark was a 10-stroke improvement from last week.

“Austin had his first bogey, one over par, and made many great shots throughout the night! He is improving quite quickly,” added Hunt.

Colon placed fifth with a team mark of 226 with no players cracking the top 10.  Individual results weren’t reported.

In the Wolverine Conference, Three Rivers dropped a dual 184-207 against Plainwell at Lake Doster.  Garron Gahan tied the low round of the day at 44.  Nick Melville scored 52, Philip Wellman 54, and Isaac Adams 57.

“Scores are always a bit higher at Lake Doster, especially on the back nine, and tonight was no exception,” noted Wildcats coach Patrick Kline.  “We made some big numbers at times that we really need to eliminate, and we are still searching for that consistency as we are moving toward the conference tournament.”

Meanwhile at Cheshire Hills, Sturgis edged Allegan 185-187.  Hayden Goodman led the Trojan effort with a 40.  Next were Graeme Herald (46), Austin Sanford (47), Charlie Frost (52), Nick Berry (54), and Luc Vander Hulst (58).
