On Monday, Three Rivers and Sturgis faced off at Klinger Lake in their second “County Cup” boys golf match play event. The Trojans won the day 5-3 to wrestle the traveling trophy away for the first time.
“We just started this new tradition last season and it has already become a favorite for the players, as well as the coaches,” said Wildcats coach Patrick Kline. “We play stroke play all season, so it’s fun for the guys to compete in a different format and go head-to-head against one of their rivals.”
TR’s match winners were Isaac Adams, Caleb Quake, and Max Hoxie. Sturgis’ winners were not available.
On Tuesday at Klinger Lake, the Southwest 10 had their conference championship event. Cassopolis finished first, followed by Comstock, White Pigeon, Marcellus, and Centreville.
WP’s Luke Gropp earned first-team all conference with teammates Owen Keo and Jezz Ryall getting second-team. Centreville’s Landon Bingman claimed second-team as well.
MHSAA Regional tournament events statewide are set for next week.
