The Glen Oaks Community College men’s cross country team placed ninth at Saturday’s NJCAA Region XII Championship in Lansing. The Vikings scored 237 points in the 11-team field.
Lansing won the title with 44 points and Mott’s Bennet Prudhomme was the individual winner in 26 minutes, 24.1 seconds. Trever Sprowls led Glen Oaks in seventh place with a time of 27:05.5. Mike Campbell was 38th for the Vikings (29:28.5). Sprowls earned a spot on the All-Region First Team and he and Campbell qualified for the NJCAA Division 1 National Championship in Fort Dodge, Iowa on Nov. 14.
“We had a great showing today,” GOCC coach Shawn Hulin said. “All of the guys ran a personal best today. They worked very hard to get to this point in the season. I appreciate the work ethic this season and the focus they gave today.”
Tyler Sheteron ran a time of 32:52.7 for 64th place, Matt Clementz was 65th in 33:04.2 and Walker Truckey was 67th in 34:38.5.
Glen Oaks did not have enough runners to register a women’s team score. Hannah Wilkins finished in 24:23.2 for 57th place, Hannah Carr was 60th in 24:53.8 and Bethany Riess took 63rd in 26:15.7.
“The ladies worked hard today and continued to improve all season long,” Hulin said. “It was very awarding to be able to coach all nine runners this season.
“What a great showing for Glen Oaks Community College.”
