Glen Oaks’ softball team lost 16-1 and 19-6, respectively, in a doubleheader Saturday at Lake Michigan College that opened Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Division play.
Lake Michigan poured in 10 runs in the first inning of the opening game. The Vikings’ Whitney Barber took the loss after four innings, having given up 16 runs on eight hits. She struck out two batters and walked 13. Loren Springer, Paige Gabbard, Whitney Barber (double) and Annie Kimble each had a hit for Glen Oaks. Karley Crawford was the winning pitcher for LMC.
Caitlin Willey recorded the win for Lake Michigan in the second game after five innings of work in which she allowed six runs and eight hits. She collected six strikeouts and walked five batters. Gabbard took the loss after giving up 14 hits and walking 10 hitters.
Springer, Liz Brothers, Jenny Erhardt and Barber each had two singles for Glen Oaks. Erhardt finished with two runs batted in and Barber had three.
The Vikings (0-10) were scheduled to host Lake Michigan Sunday.
