Glen Oaks Community College traveled to Marian University’s Ancilla Tuesday for their first MCCAA Western Conference softball and baseball games of the spring 2023 season. The Vikings came away with two softball victories, while the Chargers won the lone baseball contest.
On the softball diamond, Glen Oaks won both games convincingly with 14-0 and 18-4 finals. In the first game, Sierra Carpenter doubled twice and singled, scoring twice. Hallie McCoy had three runs, two hits, and two RBI. McCoy also pitched a five-inning shutout with five hits allowed.
In game two, Olivia Teichman had four hits (two doubles) for three RBI and four runs scored. Jaden Adams scored thrice, Aubrey Mealor had three hits, two runs, and two RBI. Dakota Sigler smacked a three-run home run and Sierra Smith had three RBI and two runs scored. The Viking softball team is 3-5 on the season with the wins.
In the nine-inning baseball game, a four-run seventh inning put Ancilla up for a 6-4 victory. Brendan Monroe led the GOCC offense with two hits and three RBI. Landen Harris pitched 6.2 innings, allowing seven hits, five runs (one earned) with five strikeouts. The Vikings fall to 3-9 overall with the loss.
For Glen Oaks softball, they host Lake Michigan for Friday doubleheader, then host Kalamazoo Valley Saturday. Baseball heads to Lansing Thursday and plays at Kellogg Saturday.
