Sturgis escaped with a 33-28 overtime girls basketball win Thursday at Dowagiac. Juliette Schroeder had a double-double on 16 points and 10 rebounds. Korin Whticomb also scored 16.
“We really struggled from the field tonight,” said Trojans coach Jeremy Bucklin. “We got good shots, just could not get any to fall. Korin came to life offensively tonight. She did a great job of pushing the ball and getting to the bucket.”
“Juliette followed up Tuesday’s game with another big game,” added Bucklin. “We were a little out of sorts defensively and were working way too hard. We settled in in the second half and put a lot of pressure on them. A few untimely mistakes from our seniors let to overtime. Korin fouled out with 1:30 left in regulation. The girls handled the adversity and mistakes. Not one time did we hang our heads. Very proud of all of them.”
Sturgis enters break at 2-2 and hosts Niles on January 7 when they return. Dowagiac (0-6) is back on January 4 at Coloma.
