Constantine’s girls basketball team got in trouble early down 16-1 after the first quarter and eventually fell 52-24 Tuesday to KVA foe Galesburg-Augusta.
Kayla Loose connected on a pair of 3-pointers to lead the Falcons (2-12, 1-11) with six points. DeShea Payton finished with five, Ashley Loose pitched in four and Michelle Smith added three. Bailey Potter, Kerrigan Harris and Ashley Denaway registered two points apiece.
The Falcons got to the foul line 17 times but were only able to knock down four of those attempts, while the Rams (10-5, 1-3) scored 13 points from the stripe.
Payton led the team with eight rebounds and Potter secured five.
“We played with a lot of energy tonight,” Constantine coach Joe Stacey said. “We could have easily given up early in the first quarter but the girls settled down and began to execute better offensively. But in the second half we turned the ball over far too much. And when you give a good and aggressive team more opportunities to score they are going to convert, and they did. We have been stressing protecting the ball and we must improve at that if we want to compete in any game. We work hard defensively to get rebounds and/or turnovers but, we need to be more patient on offense once we have the ball.”
