Three Rivers and Edwardsburg met Friday in a girls basketball district championship for the fifth consecutive season. This time around, the Eddies came away with a 66-55 victory for the Distirct #48 crown at Dowagiac.
“Edwardsburg was able to make more plays in the last three minutes to pull out the win,” said Wildcats coach Jason Bingaman, whose team led by one with 2:30 remaining. “Great back and forth game until then.”
“We had had our opportunities but just couldn’t get some good looks to fall down the stretch,” Bingaman added. “Transition points ended up being the difference, we turned the ball over too many times and can’t do that against team like Edwardsburg. Edwardsburg shot 42% from the field which is the best a team has shot versus us all year.”
The Wildcats finish the year at 12-3. They graduate seniors Kali Heivilin, Rylie Kelly, Alivia Knapp, Natalie Barnes, and Illy Taylor; whose accomplishments include last year’s district crown.
The Eddies improve to 11-3 and host Buchanan in Monday’s 5:30 p.m. regional semifinal. The other side of the bracket has fellow Wolverine Conference squad Plainwell against Wayland. The Trojans edged Otsego 42-39 in their matchup.
