Centreville volleyball advanced to the district championship Wednesday by sweeping Union City 25-23, 25-19, 25-13. This moves the Bulldogs to Thursday’s 6:30 p.m. championship from Constantine.
“We did a lot of good things tonight, which helped cover up some of the areas we struggled,” said Centreville coach Deric Mostrom. “We got off to a slow start in set one, down 7-1,but we came back and finished much better throughout the rest of that set. I was glad to see the girls were able to fight back against of some long runs that we gave up, but we know we can’t be giving up those longs runs in post season play. ”
“Adi Hackett came out swinging tonight!” added Mostrom. “Kali Evans (setter) and Adi have been connecting very well the past few weeks. It was good to see Adi take care of the ball when she got the opportunity!”
“Kali spread the ball out well and finished with 36 assists,” Mostrom continued. “For the most part, she made the right choices tonight and ran the offense well. With a combination of five good hitters and a setter that can pretty much set what ever you want, it definitely makes it tougher on the defense.”
The Bulldogs (31-10-3) will face perennial power Bronson in Thursday’s championship, as the Vikings eliminated district host Constantine in the other semifinal.
“This is always a matchup we know we will get in the first round of postseason play,” said Mostrom. “They are playing very well right now and we will have to show up ready to play! This group of Bulldog Volleyball players have worked hard all season and are ready for the matchup!”
