CENTREVILLE — The White Pigeon volleyball team knocked off Constantine in a two-game final Saturday at a four-squad county invitational in Centreville. The Falcons went 4-0 in pool play, including a best-of-three victory over White Pigeon, before the Chiefs got revenge in the championship with a 25-14, 28-26 victory.
Standouts for Constantine included Zoe Jones (30 kills, 27 digs), Jessica Mallo (32 kills, 27 digs, 6 assists), Lexie Harrison (21 kills, 37 digs, four blocks), Danica Lucas (21 kills, 43 digs) and Cassie Wentela (70 assists, 18 digs and nine aces).
“Today was a great start to the season,” Constantine coach Niki Tulley said. “The girls came ready to play and played solid throughout the day. “When the girls play with confidence they really do great things. Our defense struggled in some areas, but these kids are some of the hardest working players I’ve had, they are willing to put in the work, we know what it’s going to take to be a winning team and they are willing to do whatever it takes.”
The Falcons beat Colon and Centreville in pool play before matching up with Colon again in the semifinals for a 25-16, 25-13, 25-15 win
Kelsey Potter contributed 11 digs and two kills, Michelle Smith added 23 digs and five assists, Jordan Smith finished with six kills and DeShae Payton registered four kills.
