The always anticipated football rivalry between Constantine and Schoolcraft is apparently not going to happen in 2021. According to the Constantine athletic department, the Eagles opted to forfeit Friday’s varsity contest scheduled for Sweetland Stadium. The Schoolcraft district Facebook page cited COVID issues as the cause.
Unless rescheduled later in the season, it would be the first time the longtime rivals haven’t met in varsity football since 1973. Although generally SAC Valley division rivals, this game won’t effect division commitments as the Falcons are in the Lakeshore division and the Eagles the Valley for football in 2021.
Per Constantine, the JV matchup against Schoolcraft for Thursday has not changed. The Falcons were able to find a new varsity opponent but will have a lengthy trip, as they’ll head south to Indianapolis against Cardinal Ritter High School at 7 p.m. Friday. The Raiders are 0-4 on the season with an enrollment of 516.
The Falcons are off to a 3-0 start with three lopsided victories thus far in 2021. Normally-strong Schoolcraft has started 0-3, albeit against very tough competition.
