Constantine struggles at KVA tourney

November 3, 2013 By Wes Morgan

The Constantine volleyball team entered Saturday’s Kalamazoo Valley Association tournament seeded fifth. A 1-2 record on the day moved the Falcons into seventh place for the season.

Schoolcraft defended its championship with a 25-10, 25-16, 25-19 win over Parchment in the finals.

Constantine beat Battle Creek Pennfield, 25-20, 25-19, and dropped a four-set match against Kalamazoo Christian and a 25-20, 25-23 contest to Olivet in pool play.

Lexie Harrison had 29 kills and 26 digs, Jessica Mallo posted seven aces, 19 kills, 1 block and 28 digs, Zoe Jones registered 19 kills and 22 digs, Danica Lucas finished with 18 kills and 23 digs; Jordan Smith contributed four kills, two blocks and five digs, Kelsey Potter had 22 digs and Cassie Wentela finished with four aces, 69 assists and 13 digs for Constantine.

Tournament results can be found on the Scoreboard page.

“[Saturday] was a struggle for the girls,” Falcons coach Niki Tulley said. “We never played to our full potential. Our normal 90-percent serve reception was about 60 percent, leaving us to play defense all day instead of controlling the ball and attacking. Consistency is what we are struggling with right now, and maintaining positive focus throughout the game. Tomorrow is a new day, and the girls will be ready to compete Monday in our district game versus Decatur.”
