Constantine head football coach Shawn Griffith is loaded with running backs and the trio of Justin Hull, Andreys Montoya and Matt Hasbrouck fired off over 100 yards a piece in a 64-20 win Thursday over visiting Delton Kellogg.
Hull led the Falcons with 123 yards and three touchdowns on just four carries, Montoya added 114 and two scores and Hasbrouck posted 103 and a TD on four rushes. Montoya also registered a team-high six tackles.
“You sit down and watch the film and I’m sure we didn’t play quite as good as the score indicated, but we’ve got some kids that can run and we were able to spring several different players,” Griffith said.”
Jeremiah Schrock (71 rushing yards), Taylor Reiff (58 and a TD) and Eric Petoskey (40 and a TD) also got in on the ground game fun.
After coming away from last week’s scrimmages slightly concerned about the defensive side of the ball, the Falcons’ effort Thursday was a pleasant surprise. Constantine limited Delton Kellogg’s top three rushers to a total of 140 yards and allowed just 69 passing yards.
“I thought early in the game our defense stepped up and did a nice job,” Griffith said. “If we keep improving on that side of the ball we’re going to be a pretty good football team.”
