Constantine wracked up 210 points to win its own Hubert and Daisy Wagner Wrestling Tournament Saturday, outdistancing second-place Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern by 101 points.
Climax-Scotts was third (112), followed by Kalamazoo Loy Norrix (98), Constantine B (86), Gobles (65), Colon (45) and Marcellus (43).
A total of 17 Falcons placed among the top three in their respective weight classes, including titles by Taylor Reiff (140 pounds), Andres Montoya (145), who entered the weekend ranked No. 7 in Division 4 by Michigan Grappler, and ninth-ranked Daniel Waterman (171).
“The kids wrestled well today considering all of the illness that is going through the group,” Constantine coach Steve Wilson said. I want to thank the Wagner family and the wrestlers’ parents for their outstanding help and support in running the tournament.”
“We really had to come out and wrestle smart and stay off our backs when in trouble,” said Reiff, who improved to 8-2 this year. “We had to get pins and that’s what a lot of us did and that helped us win the tournament.”
