On the heels of its first victory of the year, the Constantine boys basketball team capped a trying regular season on Friday night with a 58-44 loss to Maple Valley.
The Falcons will have a tough test to open up districts next week as they face Kalamazoo Valley Association champ Schoolcraft.
On Friday, Joey Steiner got Constantine off to a solid start, scoring eight of his 11 points in the first quarter alone. All three of his field goals on the night came from behind the 3-point arc.
Still, the Falcons were unable to avoid a 33-15 halftime hole that only got deeper in the third quarter.
Cody Ley paced Constantine offensively with his game-high 17 points, which was accompanied by 10 rebounds. Ley got to the foul line often in the fourth quarter, finishing 9-for-11 from the charity stripe.
Austin Kinser added five points for the Falcons, while Luhk Mullendore chimed in with four points, Anthony Bontrager with three and Perry White with two.
Eli Beegle and Jon Doering each scored a point for Constantine, too.
