Comstock baseball picked up a 7-5 victory at Climax-Scotts Friday afternoon, giving the Colts a 4-1 record to start their 2019 campaign.
Climax-Scotts opened with the lead getting three runs off of three hits in the first inning. A huge third inning put Comstock up, as they brought home six via three hits and four walks. TJ Reilly had a two RBI single and Cole Mollohan smacked two in on a double. The Panthers were back within one with a two-spot in the bottom of the frame.
Mollohan pitched four shutout innings of relief for Comstock, stranding six runners. A key strikeout with bases loaded in the sixth kept the Colts ahead. Evan Caswell scored twice on a hit and two walks, getting the extra run in the fourth.
Notably for the Panthers, Jake Lane pitched the final three innings in relief perfectly. Brock Borden had two hits, two runs, and one RBI for C-S with two-hit days as well for Jackson Lawrence, Andrew Elenga, and Braden Butler.
Climax-Scotts opens the season at 0-2 and returns to action at Burr Oak Tuesday. Comstock sits at 4-1 and competes in the Bridgman Round Robin tournament Saturday. The Colts open BCS league play at Buchanan Tuesday.
