Comets dash Constantine’s hopes

February 15, 2014 By Joe Insider Staff Report

The Constantine boys basketball team took a legitimate stab at adding its first dash in the win column on the road Friday night, but Kalamazoo Christian narrowly shut the Falcons down to the tune of 66-61.

Constantine (0-14, 0-13 KVA) continued its search for the program’s first win of the season, and a strong effort by both Cody Ley and Joey Steiner nearly made it happen. The duo teamed up for 47 of their team’s 61 points.

Ley was credited with 24 points and Joey Steiner hit six field goals, including three conversions from behind the 3-point line, and was 2-for-2 from the charity stripe to tally 23 points.

Behind this duo, Perry White scored eight points and Luke Mullendore added seven. Anthony Bontrager finished the night with six points while John Doering and Austin Kinser notched three and two points respectively.

The Comets had some star power of their own on the floor in Brennan Heidema, who poured in 25 points in the victory. Kevin Wunderley added 11 points.

The Falcons will turn around to face Olivet tomorrow.
