Two magic tricks weren’t enough for the Colon boys basketball team Thursday at Climax-Scotts in a double-overtime 78-68 defeat.
Brad Brittingham knocked down a 3-pointer at the buzzer for Colon to send the contest to overtime and Spencer Smolarz scored on a diving layup at the horn in the first extra period to extend the game to a second overtime.
“We made two great comebacks. But our poor free throw shooting was the difference in the game,” Magi coach Mike Sowles said of his squad’s 21-for-45 performance at the stripe.
Brittingham finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds and three assists and Smolarz added 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and four steals. Tyler Schipper chipped in 10 points, three rebounds and two steals, Mike Flick had 13 points and four boards and Logan Vaughn recorded six points and three steals for Colon (1-1)
Dallas Froberg led Climax-Scotts (1-1) with 27 points, followed by Sam Eshuis (20) and Kyle Bowering (10).
