White Pigeon’s wrestling team ripped through the Union City Invitational Saturday to a 5-0 record.
The Chiefs produced six undefeated grapplers and a trio of 4-1 efforts. Rogelio Segundo (112 pounds), Braydon Steeb (125), Jordan Lucas (135), Shaun Harmon (152), Jared Mroz (171) and Devin Hoover (189) each finished 5-0.
Steeb improved to 15-8 this season after collecting five pins.
“Four of the pins were under 30 seconds, and the other pin was about a minute, 7 seconds,” Steeb said. “A pretty fun day … got some needed mat time and the team did great, too.”
Even after such a dominant performance, Harmon harped on the things he could have done better.
“[I was] in a few bad positions, but luckily nothing cost me any points,” he explained. “Felt very solid today overall.”
The Chiefs beat Eau Claire 63-12, Union City 60-24, Union City “B” 72-6, Michigan Center 46-33 and Hastings 60-18.
Luke Lambert finished 4-1 at 103, Nic McIntyre was 4-1 at 140 and Jake Black had the same record at 145.
Hoover won by fall four times and Harmon also tallied four pins. Branden Wright was 3-2 at 215 and Hunter Rummler finished 3-2 at 160.
